Community Guidelines

Galerie Live!
At Galerie, we believe that movies connect people and give us new ways of understanding who we are. Galerie Live! is our ongoing series of conversations and live screenings that celebrate filmmaking and explore the craft and culture of cinema.  

We aim to foster an inclusive and diverse community centered around curiosity, discovery and making film literacy interactive and accessible to all. 

Community Guidelines: 
A discussion can’t thrive without community! Participation is welcomed and encouraged. Please feel free to ask questions and share your own on-topic comments.  

  1. Be respectful of hosts, moderators and fellow community members. 

  2. Hate speech, discrimination, offensive remarks, vulgar language or inappropriate image-sharing will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Any violations will result in immediate removal from the discussion and a ban from future live events. 

  3. At Galerie we look to nurture diverse points of view, backgrounds and experiences. Please respect and understand that all thoughts and feelings expressed in discussions are subjective and not gospel to an artform. That is the beauty of cinema. 


How to join a Live Discussion or Watch Party
With a Galerie subscription, you get access to all of our Watch Parties, Live Chats and Live Discussions, as well as our curated selection of streaming films. You’ll be the first to know about upcoming events and be able to set reminders so you don’t miss out. 

Want to join chats but not quite ready to subscribe? Log in as a Galerie member and you can participate in two of our monthly live chats: The State of Movies and First Fridays, where everyone is welcome! When you’re ready, you can subscribe for full access to all our screenings and chats, and enjoy the ability to stream groundbreaking movies selected by Galerie curators.

Live Discussion 
This is a discussion led by a host or moderator on the craft and culture of cinema. Chats are 45 minutes. 

If the related film is available to stream on Galerie, we’ll link to it on the discussion page—we recommend watching it ahead of time, or anytime. There’s a reason why we’re talking about it! 

These discussions are often focused on a film selected by a Galerie curator, but we also host conversations that explore a variety of cinematic topics and themes. 

Live Screening + Discussion 
This is a live screening followed by a discussion. This means you can enjoy the film in real time with other Galerie members and then chat about it afterwards! These discussions frequently feature people who worked on the film you just watched, who join us for a 45-minute conversation immediately following the screening. 

Watch Party
A Watch Party is an opportunity to chat while watching a film with other Galerie members and special hosts. Think interactive DVD commentary, or being able to comment in real time without disturbing anyone’s viewing experience.  

A Watch Party chat lasts for the duration of the film. Popcorn optional.
